The Wholesale Sale Price feature in WooCommerce Wholesale Prices Premium lets you offer a temporary discounted wholesale price to your wholesale customers. Just like WooCommerce‘s standard sale price for retail shoppers, it displays the original wholesale price with a strikethrough alongside the reduced sale price. This makes your promotion immediately visible to the right buyers.
This is especially useful for clearance events, seasonal promotions, or time-limited offers you want to run exclusively for your wholesale buyers without permanently changing your regular wholesale or retail pricing. You can also schedule the sale to run between specific dates, so the price activates and deactivates automatically.

How to set the wholesale sale price
Navigate to WordPress Admin → Products → All Products and open the product you want to put on sale. In the Product Data panel, scroll down to the Wholesale Prices section.
Each wholesale role has a Discount Type setting, which is Fixed by default. With Fixed, enter the amount you want in the Wholesale Sale Price field. If you switch the role to Percentage, a Sale Discount (%) field appears instead, you enter the percentage there, and the Wholesale Sale Price field becomes read-only and is calculated for you.
Click Update or Publish to save your changes. The sale price becomes active immediately for customers assigned to that wholesale role.
Scheduling the wholesale sale price
To run the sale for a fixed period, click the Schedule link next to the Wholesale Sale Price field. A Sale price dates row appears with From and To date inputs. On a variable product the same Schedule link sits on each variation’s Wholesale Sale Price field, and the two inputs are labelled Sale start date and Sale end date.
Set your desired start and end dates. The sale starts at 00:00:00 on the From date and ends at 23:59:59 on the To date, so the last day of the sale is included. Leave the From date blank to make the sale active immediately, or leave the To date blank for an open-ended promotion.
Set a wholesale sale price with Quick Edit
Quick Edit lets you change an immediate wholesale sale price for a simple or external product without opening the full product editor. Use the full editor when you need to schedule the sale. For a variable product, set the sale price on each variation under Product Data → Variations.
- In your WordPress admin, go to Products → All Products.
- Hover over the simple or external product you want to update and click Quick Edit.
- In the Wholesale Price group, enter the regular wholesale price for the applicable role.
- In the Wholesale Sale Price group, enter a lower sale price for the same role.
- Click Update.
Enter prices with the decimal separator configured under WooCommerce → Settings → General. For example, if your store uses a comma as the decimal separator, enter 5,50. WooCommerce Wholesale Prices version 2.2.9 or later normalizes that value and saves the intended price correctly.
What wholesale customers see
When a wholesale customer visits a product with an active wholesale sale price, the product page shows the original wholesale price with a strikethrough alongside the reduced sale price. This is the same visual treatment used for standard WooCommerce retail sales.
Troubleshoot decimal prices saved with Quick Edit
If a localized Quick Edit value such as 5,50 changes to 5.00, the store is using an older release that does not normalize the comma decimal correctly in this workflow.
- Update WooCommerce Wholesale Prices to version 2.2.9 or later.
- Return to Products → All Products and reopen Quick Edit for the product.
- Re-enter the regular wholesale price and the lower wholesale sale price using your store’s configured decimal separator.
- Click Update, then reopen Quick Edit to confirm the saved values.
If you cannot update immediately, open the product’s full editor and save the wholesale sale price there as a temporary workaround. For variable products, continue to use Product Data → Variations.
How a retail sale price affects the wholesale price
A percentage wholesale discount is calculated from whatever price is active at the time. When a product is on sale, the active price is the sale price, so the percentage comes off the sale price rather than the regular price. This applies to the global discount percentage, category based percentages, and quantity based percentages.
A wholesale price you type directly on the product is not affected. It is a fixed amount, so a retail sale does not change it.
To keep percentage discounts based on the regular price, enable Always Use Regular Price in WooCommerce > Settings > Wholesale Prices. The setting reads: when calculating the wholesale price by using a percentage, always ensure the regular price is used and ignore the sale price if present.
The setting is off by default, so a store that has never touched it is calculating percentage discounts from sale prices whenever a product is on sale.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Wholesale Sale Price apply to all wholesale roles or just one?
The Wholesale Sale Price is set per wholesale role. Each role has its own Wholesale Price and Wholesale Sale Price pair in the product editor, so you can run different promotions (or no promotion at all) for each role simultaneously.
What happens if I set a Wholesale Sale Price without entering a start or end date?
The sale price becomes active immediately and stays active indefinitely until you remove the value or set an end date. There is no automatic expiry unless you schedule one using the To date in the Sale price dates row.
Does the Wholesale Sale Price work on variable products?
Yes. For variable products, you set the wholesale sale price on each variation individually in the Variations tab. Each variation can have its own wholesale sale price and schedule, independent of other variations on the same product.
Can the Wholesale Sale Price be lower than the retail price?
Yes. There are no plugin-enforced restrictions on how low you can set the wholesale sale price relative to the retail price. You are responsible for setting a price that makes sense for your margin and business rules.
Does the Wholesale Sale Price interact with WooCommerce coupons?
The Wholesale Sale Price acts as the base product price at checkout, replacing the regular wholesale price. Whether a coupon applies on top of it depends on your individual coupon settings in WooCommerce. The plugin itself does not block coupon usage when a sale price is active. Check the Disable Coupons For Wholesale Users setting as well, because it turns coupons off for every wholesale customer regardless of sale prices.
I set a Wholesale Sale Price but customers are still seeing the regular wholesale price. What should I check?
Work through these common causes:
- Confirm you saved the product after entering the sale price.
- If you scheduled the sale, verify the start date has passed and the end date has not yet been reached.
- Check that the customer is assigned to the correct wholesale role.
- Clear your site cache. Caching plugins can serve stale prices until the cache is refreshed.
Can I set a Wholesale Sale Price in bulk across many products?
The product editor sets the sale price on a per-product basis. For large catalogues, use a CSV import/export tool or a WooCommerce bulk-edit solution to update wholesale sale prices across multiple products at once. For a variable product you can set the sale price on many variations at once: open Product Data → Variations, choose Set wholesale sale prices (role name) from the bulk actions dropdown, and enter the value.
Does the Wholesale Sale Price appear in the Wholesale Order Form?
Yes. If you are using WooCommerce Wholesale Order Form, the active wholesale sale price is reflected in the order form, including the strikethrough display showing the original wholesale price alongside the sale price.
