How to override wholesale settings for individual wholesale users

Wholesale pricing rules in WooCommerce Wholesale Prices Premium apply at the role level by default, meaning every customer assigned to the same wholesale role receives the same discounts, minimum order requirements, shipping options, and payment gateways. Most of the time that is exactly what you want. However, there are situations where individual customers need different terms: a long-standing customer who has negotiated free shipping, a new account that is not yet eligible for your standard discount, or a customer in a region where specific payment methods must be restricted.

WooCommerce Wholesale Prices Premium includes a Per User Wholesale Prices Settings section on every wholesale customer’s WordPress profile page. From there, a store administrator can override minimum order requirements, tax exemption, wholesale discounts, shipping options, and payment gateway options for that customer specifically, without changing any global settings or affecting other customers.

Requirements

  • WooCommerce Wholesale Prices Premium installed and activated. The Per User Wholesale Prices Settings section is exclusive to the Premium plugin.
  • The customer must have a wholesale role assigned to their account. The settings section only appears on user profiles where a wholesale role has been set.

How to access per user wholesale settings

The override settings are found on the WordPress user profile page for the wholesale customer you want to configure.

  1. Go to Users in your WordPress admin.
  2. Locate the wholesale customer and click Edit below their name.
  3. Scroll down to the Per User Wholesale Prices Settings section.

The section is divided into five groups of settings. Each group has its own enable toggle, which is set to No by default. Global and role-level settings remain active for any group you leave disabled.

Override minimum order requirements

This group lets you set a custom minimum order quantity, a custom minimum order subtotal, or both for this customer. Enable each one independently using its own toggle.

  • Override Minimum Order Quantity – set to Yes to activate a per-user minimum quantity. When enabled, the Minimum Order Quantity field appears. Enter the minimum number of items required. Set to zero or leave blank for no minimum.
  • Override Minimum Order Subtotal – set to Yes to activate a per-user minimum subtotal. The label includes your store’s currency symbol. When enabled, the Minimum Order Subtotal field appears. The value is calculated using the product’s wholesale price before tax and shipping. Use a dot (.) as the decimal separator and omit comma separators. Set to zero or leave blank to disable.
  • Minimum Order Logic – controls how the two requirements interact when both are active. Choose AND to require both conditions to be met, or OR to require only one of them.

Override tax exemption

The Tax Exemption field controls whether this customer is exempt from tax, independently of the global tax exemption setting in Wholesale → Settings. Select from three options.

  • Use Global Option – the customer follows whatever tax exemption setting is configured globally. This is the default.
  • No – tax is applied to this customer regardless of the global setting.
  • Yes – this customer is exempt from tax.

Override wholesale general discount

Set Override Wholesale General Discount to Yes to apply a custom percentage discount to this customer. Enter the discount in the Percent Discount (%) field that appears. This discount applies to all products that do not have a direct wholesale price set on the product itself.

Override general quantity based discounts

Use Override General Quantity Based Discounts? to control whether quantity-based discount rules apply to this customer.

  • Disabled – no quantity-based discounts apply to this user.
  • Use Globally Defined General Quantity Based Discounts – this user follows the quantity-based discount rules configured for their wholesale role. This is the default.
  • Define Alternate Quantity Based Discounts For This User – enter a custom set of quantity-based discount rules for this user in the mapping table that appears below this field.

When Define Alternate Quantity Based Discounts For This User is selected, the Apply Discounts Based On Individual Product Quantities? field becomes available.

  • Yes – discount tiers are evaluated per product. Each product qualifies for its own tier based on its individual quantity in the cart.
  • No – discount tiers are evaluated on the combined total quantity of all products in the cart.

For example, with a rule of 10 to 20 items at 20% and 21 or more items at 25%, and a cart containing 10 units of Product A and 11 units of Product B: with the setting set to Yes, each product is evaluated individually and both receive 20%; with the setting set to No, the combined quantity is 21 so both products receive 25%.

Override shipping options

Set Override Shipping Options to Yes to configure custom shipping for this customer. The Shipping Method Type field then controls which mode to use.

  • Force Free Shipping – this customer always receives free shipping, regardless of cart contents or zone rules.
  • Specify Shipping Methods – you choose which shipping methods are available to this customer at checkout.

When Specify Shipping Methods is selected, the following additional fields appear.

  • Hide Selected Shipping Methods (Zoned and Non Zoned) From Others – controls whether the methods assigned to this user are visible to other customers. Choose No to keep them available to other eligible users, Hide from non wholesale users to hide them from retail customers only, or Hide from all other users (wholesale and non wholesale) to make them exclusive to this customer.
  • Shipping Zone – select the WooCommerce shipping zone from which available methods are drawn.
  • Shipping Method – select one or more shipping methods from the chosen zone to make available to this customer.
  • Specify Non Zoned Shipping Methods – set to Yes to also assign shipping methods that are not tied to a zone. When enabled, the Non Zoned Shipping Methods multiselect appears.

Override payment gateway options

Set Override Payment Gateway Options to Yes to restrict which payment gateways are available to this customer at checkout. The Payment Gateway Options multiselect appears, listing all payment gateways enabled on your store. Select the gateways this customer should have access to.

Override payment gateway surcharge

The Override Payment Gateway Surcharge field controls whether a surcharge is applied when this customer pays with a specific gateway.

  • Use general wholesale role payment gateway surcharge – this customer follows the surcharge rules configured for their wholesale role. This is the default.
  • Do not use general wholesale role payment gateway surcharge – no surcharge is applied for this customer, regardless of role-level surcharge settings.
  • Specify payment gateway surcharge – enter a custom surcharge for this customer in the mapping table that appears below.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Per User Wholesale Prices Settings section appear for every user on my site?

No. The section only appears on the profile of a user who has been assigned a wholesale role. If you edit a retail customer or an administrator without a wholesale role, the section will not be visible.

Do I need to configure every override for a user?

No. Each override is disabled by default and only takes effect when you set it to Yes. You can enable as many or as few overrides as needed. Any group you leave at its default continues to follow the global or role-level configuration.

Who can see and edit these settings?

The Per User Wholesale Prices Settings section is only visible to users with the Manage WooCommerce capability, which is typically the store administrator. Wholesale customers logging into their own account will not see these settings on their profile page.

If I set a per-user discount, does it stack with the role-level percentage discount?

No. When you enable Override Wholesale General Discount for a user and enter a percentage, the per-user discount replaces the role-level general discount for that customer. It does not add on top of it.

What happens if a product already has a direct wholesale price set?

A directly entered wholesale price takes precedence over any percentage-based general discount, whether that discount comes from the role level or a per-user override. The general discount override only affects products that do not have a direct wholesale price set on the product itself.

Can I set both a minimum order quantity and a minimum order subtotal for the same user?

Yes. Enable both Override Minimum Order Quantity and Override Minimum Order Subtotal, then use the Minimum Order Logic field to decide whether the customer must meet both conditions (AND) or just one (OR).

Will overriding shipping options remove the standard WooCommerce shipping methods from that user’s checkout?

When Override Shipping Options is set to Yes and Shipping Method Type is set to Specify Shipping Methods, only the methods you select are shown to that customer at checkout. The Hide Selected Shipping Methods (Zoned and Non Zoned) From Others setting controls whether the methods you assigned to this customer are also visible to others.

I set an override and saved the profile, but the change is not taking effect. What should I check?

First, reopen the user’s profile and confirm the override is still saved as expected. Then clear any server-side or object cache on your site. If you are using a full-page cache plugin, flush it and test with the wholesale user in a private browser session, since cached pages may reflect an earlier state. If shipping or payment overrides are not appearing at checkout, also confirm the customer’s wholesale role is still assigned to their account.

Does this feature work with WooCommerce Wholesale Order Form?

Yes. Minimum order requirements set at the per-user level apply to the cart and checkout regardless of which ordering interface the customer uses. Shipping and payment gateway overrides are enforced at checkout and apply regardless of how the order was placed.

Can I configure overrides for multiple users at the same time?

The Per User Wholesale Prices Settings section works on one user profile at a time. There is no bulk override feature built into the plugin. For store-wide changes that apply to an entire role, use the role-level settings in Wholesale → Settings instead.
