WordPress Multisite allows you to create a network of sites on a single WordPress installation. And if our plugins are installed and running on a Multisite, then it’s important to know how to properly activate and update them.
Installation On Multisite
To install the Wholesale Suite plugins, the Super Admin must install the plugins on the Network site. This will make the plugins available to all of your subsites.
Then go to your Wholesale > License to activate your licenses.
Afterwards, you can freely deactivate the plugins on your Network site if you don’t need them there and only activate it to the subsite where you need them to.
Updating The Plugins In A Multisite Environment
When updating the plugins, simply go to the Network site and activate the plugins to get the new update notice. Once they are updated on the Network site, the plugins should also be updated on all of your subsites as well.
License Requirements For Multisite
Please note that you must have a Business level license to activate the plugin and to receive continuous updates for a multisite environment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do multisite plugins need to be installed by the Super Admin?
Yes, only the Super Admin can install Wholesale Suite plugins at the Network level. Once installed there, every subsite on your network gains access to the plugins. Individual site administrators cannot install network-wide plugins themselves — this step must be handled from the Network dashboard.
Are Wholesale Suite plugins compatible with WordPress Multisite?
Absolutely, all Wholesale Suite plugins support WordPress Multisite environments. You install them once at the Network level, then choose which subsites to run them on. This gives you flexibility to run wholesale features on only the sites that need them, without forcing the plugins onto every subsite.
Does every subsite need its own separate license to function?
No, you do not purchase individual licenses per subsite. However, you do need a Business-tier plan to unlock multisite support across your network. Without that plan level, the plugins will not remain active or receive ongoing updates on a multisite setup.
Can I update Wholesale Suite plugins across all subsites at once?
Once you re-enable the plugins temporarily at the Network level, the standard update notification appears and you can apply it from there. After finishing, you can deactivate them again at the network level while keeping them running on each chosen subsite. The update rolls out to every site automatically.
Why isn’t my license activating on a subsite after network installation?
If you navigate to Wholesale > License on a subsite and the activation fails, check that your plan is at the Business level or higher, since lower tiers do not support multisite. Also confirm you entered the license key on the Network site first before attempting to activate it on individual subsites — skipping that order is the most common reason activation does not go through.
